Maldives Revises Resort-Island Lease Rates to Encourage Tourism Investment
On 19 October, reports detailed reduced lease costs for tourism development on islands in six atolls and Addu City under a cross-subsidy scheme. The revised rates reduce the base charge by USD 100,000 in each applicable area, lower the per-hectare charge by USD 15,000 and halve the premium for the largest islands to USD 500,000. These are reported lease-rate changes, not confirmed property sale prices.
